This is only one of many little guys that live in the oaks in my yard. He took the running jump off the roof to get to this plum tree outside my kitchen window. "Companion" was done in response to this weeks' DPW Challenge
I will have to start carrying my camera everywhere I go. Tuesday was overcast and rainy off and on. As we left for errands around 9AM I noted the neighbors poppies and wisteria and thought I should have that camera. Mind you we live in the city. Small city but very populated area. So as I check out the flowers in the yards DH asks "Is that a big dog or small horse?"
My intelligent response was "Huh?"
"In the road" he says.
I look at the street. Running right up the center...
"Neither. That would be deer. Momma and 2 fawns."
She is looking all over but not wavering or leaving the middle of the street. The little ones are running and jumping behind her. Intersection - dead ahead. We are cruising along at 3 mph. She stops, now in the middle of the intersection. Noses the fawns close to her and keeps looking around for a place to go.
Time for us to turn away and give her the opportunity to get her family someplace safe.
NO CAMERA and no other cars on the road.

Hey Lee! I love this painting! You capture things so beautiful, even if you don't have your camera! LOL! I would have love to have seen the momma deer and the 2 fawns! How wonderful! I would have kept following them! LOL! Take Care ;o) Oh, I love your response, "Huh?" LOL!
Just to let you know, my comment came up twice, so I deleted it ;o)
Cute story, and love your squirrel. They can be pesky critters sometimes but they are soooo cute at the same time.
Yes you should have had your camera. i never leave the house without mine...you never know what amazing thing you will come across. Love the squirrel by the way... Even though squirrels and I are not on the best of terms. Mine are bird feeder raiders.
Lee, he is so cute. You really captured the expression they have.
Your squirrel is so cute! Love how you painted the eye.
I'm glad there were no other cars in the intersection, it could have ended really badly for the dear little deers.
What a great story Lee - I try to carry my camera, but half the time I'm the one driving, so still don't get that amazing - once in a life time shot! Go figure~ Lover your little squirrel - they are cute, but pesky~
@Carol BlackburnThanks for stopping by Carol! The squirrels make me crazy as they romp across the roof. I wonder if they consider it a race...
@art2cee2Crystal, had my phone with me and could have gotten a poor quality shot of the deer but I was too interested in the jumping bambis to get it out of my pocket.
The squirrels are fine since I gave up on the bird feeders. :(
@Jeanne ForsythThanks Jeanne :D
BTW love the changes you made to your blog! I'm on a mission now ;)
Beautiful. Wow a day you would have liked to have your camera for sure. I love deer.
